About Fish Radio
Fish Radio was first launched as an independent production on October 22, 2003. The program now airs Monday through Friday on 27 commercial and public radio stations in nearly every region of Alaska. For 17 years, Laine Welch has covered the Alaska “fish beat” for print and broadcast. Before coming to Alaska in 1986, Laine was well known in New England for her radio broadcasts of fish prices and landings at daily auctions in Boston and New Bedford, MA. She also has worked in seafood processing, and “behind the counter” in retail and wholesale seafood businesses. Along with her statewide radio programs, Laine’s weekly Fish Factor column appears in more than a dozen newspapers and web sites. Laine’s goal is to make all people aware of the economic and social importance of the seafood industry to Alaska and the nation – from harvesters and business professionals, to those who simply eat fish occasionally.
